Drown – Bring Me The Horizon

Drown

What doesn’t kill you
Makes you wish you were dead
Got a hole in my soul growing deeper and deeper
And I can’t take
One more moment of this silence
The loneliness is haunting me
And the weight of the world’s getting harder to hold up

It comes in waves, I close my eyes
Hold my breath and let it bury me
I’m not OK and it’s not alright
Won’t you drag the lake and bring me home again

Who will fix me now?
Dive in when I’m down?
Save me from myself
Don’t let me drown
Who will make me fight?
Drag me out alive?
Save me from myself
Don’t let me drown

What doesn’t destroy you
Leaves you broken instead
Got a hole in my soul growing deeper and deeper
And I can’t take

One more moment of this silence
The loneliness is haunting me
And the weight of the worlds getting harder to hold up

It comes in waves, I close my eyes
Hold my breath and let it bury me
I’m not OK and it’s not alright
Won’t you drag the lake and bring me home again

Who will fix me now?
Dive in when I’m down?
Save me from myself
Don’t let me drown
Who will make me fight?
Drag me out alive?
Save me from myself
Don’t let me drown

‘Cause you know that I can’t do this on my own
‘Cause you know that I can’t do this on my own
‘Cause you know that I can’t do this on my own

Who will fix me now?
Who will fix me now?

Who will fix me now?
Dive in when I’m down?
Save me from myself
Don’t let me drown

About Bring Me The Horizon

British rock band Bring Me the Horizon, often referred to as BMTH, are from Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The group was formed in 2004 and currently consists of vocalist Oliver Sykes, guitarist Lee Malia, bassist Matt Kean, drummer Matt Nicholls and keyboardist Jordan Fish. A global deal with RCA Records is in place, and a U.S. deal with Columbia Records is exclusive. Their early work, including their debut album Count Your Blessings, has primarily been described as deathcore, but with subsequent albums they have embraced a more eclectic style of metalcore. Additionally, their last two albums, That’s the Spirit and amo, marked a change in sound to a less aggressive rock sound.

The Horizon Band Beginning

There are a wide variety of musical backgrounds among the founding members of Bring Me the Horizon, including metal and rock. Both Matt Nicholls and Oliver Sykes were fans of American metalcore bands like Norma Jean and Skycamefalling. They later met Lee Malia, who discussed thrash metal and melodic death metal bands like Metallica and At the Gates with them. Malia had also played in a Metallica tribute band before meeting the pair. The members of Bring Me the Horizon formed in March 2004, when they were 15 to 17 years old. Also from Rotherham, Curtis Ward joined Sykes, Malia, and Nicholls. They were completed by bassist Matt Kean, who was in other local bands. “Now, bring me that horizon,” says Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

After forming, Bring Me the Horizon released a demo album titled Bedroom Sessions. Through local UK label Thirty Days of Night Records, they released their first EP, This Is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made For, in September 2004. The label’s first signing was Bring Me the Horizon. Pristine Studios in Nottingham recorded the drums and bass guitar over two weekends, followed by guitars and vocals a week later.

After their EP was released, Visible Noise signed the band to a four-album deal, and re-released the EP in January 2005. Eventually, the band peaked at No. 41 on the UK album charts with the re-release. Later that year, the band won the Kerrang! Award for Best British Newcomer. A ceremony for award winners.

As part of their first tour, the band supported The Red Chord across the United Kingdom. Their slot was obtained by tricking venue promoters, as with other early tours. Kean and Oliver’s mother acted as the band’s de facto managers during this period. While supposed to play only at their local show, Kean emailed promoters pretending they would open for The Red Chord. As a result, they were booked for the entire tour. Sykes also created an e-mail account in the name of Johnny Truant vocalist Oliver Mitchell and used it to contact a promoter requesting Bring Me the Horizon to tour with them. In their early history, the band would get so drunk they’d vomit on stage and damage their equipment due to alcohol consumption.

Count Your Blessings was released in October 2006 in the United Kingdom and August 2007 in the United States. It was their intention to write songs in a country house, but they often became distracted. In inner-city Birmingham, they recorded the album, which was infamous for its excessive and dangerous drinking. As drummer Nicholls summarized it, “we were out every night, just like any other 18-year-old”. Critics panned the album, adding to the public’s strongly polarised response.

Producer Fredrik Nordström produced Bring Me the Horizon’s second studio album, Suicide Season. His first album was unimpressive, and he initially avoided recording sessions unless it was necessary.

A recording session later, Nordström heard the new sound they were experimenting with and became very involved. With the promotional tag line “September is Suicide Season,” it was promoted virally in the weeks leading up to its release.
