Kal Ho Na Ho – Sonu Nigam

Kal Ho Na Ho

Har ghadi badal rahi hai roop zindagi

Chhanv hai kahhi kahhi hai dhoop zidnagi

Har pal yahaan jee bhar jiyo

Jo hai sama kal ho na ho.

Har ghadi badal rahi hai roop zindagi

Chhanv hai kahhi kahhi hai dhoop zidnagi

Har pal yahaan jee bhar jiyo

Jo hai sama kal ho na ho.

Chaahe jo tumhe poore dil se

Milta hai woh mushkil se

Aisa jo koi kahin hai

Bass vahi sabse hasin hai.

Us haath ko tum thaam lo

Woh meherbaan kal ho na ho,

Har pal yahaan jee bhar jiyo

Jo hai sama kal ho na ho.

Hoo… palko ke leke saaye

Paas koi jo aaye,

Lakh sambhalo pagal dil ko

Dil dhadke hi jaaye,

Par sochlo is pal hai jo

Woh dastan kal ho na ho.

Har ghadi badal rahi hai roop zindagi

Chhanv hai kahhi kahhi hai dhoop zidnagi

Har pal yahaan jee bhar jiyo

About Sonu Nigam

Playback singing in Bollywood and other regional films catapulted Sonu Nigam to acclaim. One of the best singers of recent times, Sonu Nigam is blessed with an extraordinarily melodious voice and an amazingly versatile talent. Starting from a very young age, Sonu has not only excelled as a playback singer, but has experimented with different genres with ease. Till date he has sung over 2000 songs in about 10 different languages. In 2006, while Sonu was at the peak of his career as the highest paid male playback singer in Bollywood, he decided to focus on personal projects and stage performances instead.

The Early Years and Education

Sonu Nigam was born on July 30, 1973, in Faridabad, Haryana. There are two sisters in his family, Meenal and Nikita. He attended the J. D. Tytler School and graduated from Delhi University. After moving to Mumbai in 1990, he aspired to become a playback singer. Madhurima Banerjee and Sonu Nigam were married on February 15, 2002. Neevan, the couple’s son, was born on July 27, 2007.

Music runs in the veins of some lucky individuals. This seems to be the case with Sonu Nigam as well. The father of Sonu, Agam Kumar Nigam, used to perform on stage. Having accompanied his father to shows, Sonu grew interested in music. When he was four years old, he threw a tantrum in one of the shows because he wanted to sing. During the movie “Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahi”, he sang the superhit song of Mohammed Rafi, “Kya Hua Tera Wada”. A great musical journey began with that.

The training of Sonu began at home. From his father, he learned the nuances of music. During his time in Delhi, he studied classical music with Ustad Maha Kanjar Naveed. His passion for music overrode every other interest and he pursued it relentlessly. As a teenager, he participated in a number of regional and national music competitions and won most of them. Suddenly, he thought about becoming a famous playback singer in Bollywood. His father accompanied him when he moved to Mumbai at the age of 18. His musical training continued under Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan’s tutelage while he sought opportunities.

Sonu got his first break as a playback singer in the 1990 film Janam, which wasn’t released. T-series gave him a contract, but he was upset when his songs were rejected for S. P. Balasubramaniam. Gulshan Kumar, owner of T-Series, was impressed by his talent and offered him a singing contract for Bewafa Sanam. After the song ‘Achha Sila Diya Tune’ became a huge hit, people started to take notice of this talented singer.

In his early days in Mumbai, he struggled to get playback opportunities. A few radio commercials were done by him. Mohammed Rafi voice doubles were his main source of income. Among his forgettable playbacks are ‘Aaja Meri Jaan’ (1992), ‘Shabnam’ (1993), ‘Aag’ (1994), ‘Khuddar’ (1994), ‘Hulchul’ (1994), ‘Stuntman’ (1994) and ‘Ram Jaane’ (1995).
