Man In The Mirror – Michael Jackson

Man In The Mirror

I’m gonna make a change
For once in my life
It’s gonna feel real good
Gonna make a difference
Gonna make it right

As I, turn up the collar on
My favorite winter coat
This wind is blowin’ my mind
I see the kids in the street
With not enough to eat
Who am I, to be blind pretending not to see their needs?

A summer’s disregard
A broken bottle top
And a one man’s soul
They follow each other on the wind ya know
‘Cause they got nowhere to go
That’s why I want you to know

I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could’ve been any clearer
If they wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change

I’ve been a victim of a selfish kind of love
It’s time that I realize
That there are some with no home
Not a nickel to loan
Could it be really me pretending that they’re not alone?

A willow deeply scarred
Somebody’s broken heart
And a washed out dream (washed out dream)
They follow the pattern of the wind, ya see
‘Cause they got no place to be
That’s why I’m starting with me

I’m starting with the man in the mirror (oh)
I’m asking him to change his ways (oh)
And no message could’ve been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change

I’m starting with the man in the mirror (oh)
I’m asking him to change his ways (oh)
And no message could’ve been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make that
Change

I’m starting with the man in the mirror (oh yeah)
I’m asking him to change his ways (better change)
No message could’ve been any clearer
(If you wanna make the world a better place)
(Take a look at yourself and then make the change)

you can’t
(Then you close your) close your, your mind
With the man in the mirror, oh yeah
I’m asking him to change his ways (better change)
No message could’ve been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change

gonna feel real good now

I’m gonna make a change
It’s gonna feel real good
Come on (change)
Just lift yourself
You know
You’ve got to stop it
Yourself (yeah)

I’ve got to make that change today
(Man in the mirror) you got to
You got to not let yourself brother
(Yeah) you know
(Make that change) I’ve got to get that man, that man

You’ve got to
You’ve got to move
Come on
Come on
You got to
Stand up, stand up (yeah, make that change)
Stand up

Stand up and lift
Yourself, now
(Man in the mirror)

Gonna make that change come on
(Man in the mirror)

You know it
You know it
You know it
You know
Change
Make that change (The Man In The MIrror)

About Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson, in full Michael Joseph Jackson or Michael Joe Jackson (see Researcher’s Note), was one of the most popular entertainers in the early and mid-1980s (born August 29, 1958, Gary, Indiana, U.S.-died June 25, 2009, Los Angeles, California). A member of one of the most acclaimed musical families of the rock era, Michael Jackson was the youngest and most talented of five brothers, whom his father Joseph molded into the Jackson 5, a dazzling group of child stars. In addition to Michael, the Jackson 5 members included Jackie Jackson (byname of Sigmund Jackson; b. May 4, 1951, Gary), Tito Jackson (byname of Toriano Jackson; b. October 15, 1953, Gary), Jermaine Jackson (byname of Sigmund Jackson; b. December 11, 1954, Gary), and Marlon Jackson (byname of Sigmund Jackson);

Off the Wall (1979), Jackson’s first solo album for Epic, sold more than 20 million copies and was the best-selling album of the year. Quincy Jones produced Off the Wall, which yielded the massive international hits “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough” and “Rock with You,” which showcased Michael’s energetic style and capitalized on the contemporary disco dance trend. In 2003, he returned with another collaboration with Jones, Thriller, which featured an array of guest stars and launched him to worldwide fame. As the best-selling album in history, Thriller won eight Grammy awards, remained on the charts for more than two years, and sold more than 40 million copies. In the fall of 1982, “The Girl Is Mine,” a duet with Paul McCartney, reached number one on the rhythm-and-blues charts and number two on the pop charts. With “Billie Jean,” a dance track featuring Jackson’s trademark moonwalk dance, as well as “Beat It,” featuring Eddie Van Halen’s raucous solo, his follow-up single topped the pop charts. Moreover, “Beat It” helped break down artificial barriers between Black and white artists on the radio and in TV music videos.

The King of Pop

Among the most popular concerts of 1984 was his Victory reunion tour with his brothers. “King of Pop” Jackson had become internationally renowned by 1984. Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote “We Are the World” for USA for Africa, an all-star effort to alleviate famine in Africa. With Bad (1987), which produced five chart-topping hits (including the title song and “Man in the Mirror”) and Dangerous (1991), which was largely produced by Teddy Riley, Jackson cemented his dominance as a pop star. The Jackson 5 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, but he was inducted in 2001.
