About Bombay Jayashri
Bombay S Jayashree is one of the foremost Carnatic music vocalists. She has also performed as a playback singer in South Indian films. Her CDs and cassettes include many albums.
Jayashree”s Life
In her early years, Jayashree was trained in Carnatic music by her parents, N N Subramaniam and Seetha. At age four, her father initiated her into music. Later, Jayashri was taught by T R Balamani Ammal of Bombay. As a teenager, she enjoyed performing at concerts.
The legend Lalgudi G Jayaraman enrolled her as a disciple in 1989. The renowned violin maestro has been teaching her since 1989. Also, she studies veena under G N Dhandapani Iyer. In addition to T.M. Krishna, she starred in Margazhi Raagam, the first ever Carnatic concert film. There were rave reviews for the movie from all quarters.
Profile
She has performed at all the major institutions, festivals, and sabhas in India and has received acclaim from critics and rasikas alike. All India Radio’s Bombay Jayashree is an ‘A’ grade artiste and performs regularly on Doordarshan. Several cassettes and CDs have been released by her on major labels, including HMV, Sangeetha, and Inreco.
As a graduate of Bombay University, Jayashree holds a degree in commerce. She collected an impressive array of awards and titles in the fields of music, dance, and drama during her time at the university. Additionally, she holds a Diploma in Music from the Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya.
Film Industry
As a singer for Tamil films, Bombay Jayashree worked with prominent Chennai film composers A. Raja and Harris Jayaraj. “Narumugaiye” from Iruvar (1997), composed by A. Rahman was a huge success, as was Harris Jayaraj’s “Vaseegara” from Minnale (2001).
As well as appearing in the Carnatic concert movie Margazhi Raagam with T.M. Srinivasan in 2008.
